The DIY project I chose was focused on designing a t-shirt. I first bleached it in a tie dye pattern and then created a design to put on the shirt. I chose this project because it was something I had seen before and I wanted to try it. The process was fairly easy, however I created 2 shirts previous to the one made within my video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHZVtuA9GeU). After the first shirt I got down the technique and the process for the shirt I just made was easy. I learned a little bit more about design and presentation. When creating the designs I wanted to make it look neutral and that the shirt had possibly been purchased from a store. I think this will be a skill I can use whenever I’d like when I had old shirts that need to be repurposed.

Creating the interlocking puzzle pieces, I ran into multiple challenges. I tried to do a standard box and cut grooves in it so that the pieces could interlock. I tried and tried, but could not do it. So I changed my design to be more vertical and abstract. The hardest part was probably measuring each angle so that the pieces could fit within one another. I was fairly happy with how it turned out. Although in sketchup, The pieces are not shown interlocking one another. I tried to fix that but I could not understand how to move and flip the pieces already made. My sketch for the puzzle was very rough but gave the basic idea.
While creating my keychain, I decided to create a boombox. I chose a boombox because it represents music, and that is very important to me. Initially, I thought creating this boombox was going to be fairly easy. However, as I began, I ran into a couple of challenges. I wanted to make the boombox look as real as possible, and have detail. To achieve this, I added little details such as on and off switches, and pause and play. Another way I added detail was putting texture onto the speaker part of the boombox. I was happy with the finished product. Without description it really does look like a boombox by itself. That was my biggest goal, and I believe I achieved it.
Not sure what day it is, but I’ve been in my house for quite a long time. I’ve been able to leave a couple times, four times a week this week to work. I’m happy that Jets Pizza is pulling through and I’m still able to get the cash flowing in. But I swear, if Trump calls the state of emergency Quarantine on all of the US. That will be a real bummer. I’ve been able to hang out with friends, I went on nature walks with them and outside and skateboarded. I’ve been trying to stay away from them, but it’s kind a hard because the boredom is really getting to me. I decided to redo my room, what started with just painting it on the first day of Quarantine. Turned in to me buying mirrors and other things for my room, but it’s OK cause I got it all off at sea and it was super cheap. I also recycled a couple of the things that I had in my closet and brought them out into my room. Not quite sure what I’m going to do about school, I heard people were calling their counselors to see if they have enough credits to graduate. Unfortunately the only credit I needed was my ELA credit, and I was in the middle of my ELA class this semester. Anyways, life is been going pretty good and I don’t think I’m sick.
So incase you had been hiding underneath a rock, there's a pandemic going around called the Coronavirus. At first it was still very real, and very serious, but had not affected as many people and wasn't near myself. As the virus continued to grow it got closer and closer to Michigan until it reached my county. That was crazy to hear about, especially looking at the infected rate and death toll around the world. When we were told that face to face school contact was going to be suspended for 3 weeks, I selfishally thought about my Spring Break. plans, and then about the possibility of this virus infecting myself or someone I know. This sent me into somewhat of an anxiety spiral, but was able to keep myself together. Just in the short span of four days, I've gone through denial (That this is even a problem, and that it won't affect me), panic (washing my hands and disinfecting EVERYTHING), and awareness. Although this is a very real and scary thing, I don't see the point in pausing my life around this. I intend on continuing my normal, but staying aware and taking precautions.
I am almost done with my projection lamp. This week I was able to put it together without the base and it looked really nice. I was pleased with the way it was oriented and the overlap of the pegs. On Monday I should be able to really complete it and insert the light and base. On top of that, this week I was able to print out my tiny house. I was happy to see they way it came out, although the support prices printed on my house were a pain to get off. I didn’t think I’d be able to get the biggest support off but I was able to with a metal file I found at home. I’m excited to move onto the next step of the project next week and create a keychain. I had a few ideas about what I was going to create, but yet to make sketches. I think I want to create a miscellaneous object to make into a keychain.
This week I was able to laser cut my final faces for my projection lamp project. I was happy to finally do it and get the stress off my shoulders, and deal with the consequences of it not working later. After I printed out my sides, I saw that they didn't really fit together and that the tooth piece was too wide. I then had to sand down my piece for them to fit together right. I completed that Friday night using a metal file I found at my friend's house and was able to get them to fit perfectly. Now my last step is to measure all the side lengths of the hexagon the faces create, and their interior angles. On top of the projection lamp, I was able to complete my tiny house project, and start to 3-D print. I incorporated 5 different architectural designs into my tiny house and felt that its a strong reflection of my work. I'm excited to see what the finished product is Monday.
Starting the new process of creating a 3-D home, I came in to a few challenges but were able to overcome them. My first challenge was trying to construct A figure with curves. I was quickly able to figure out how to do this, by watching a quick YouTube video! My mission in building the structure of my home, is to make it modern and abstract. I do want to make the look also functional, obviously in tiny size. I’m not sure what casting material we will use when we get to casting, but I’m excited to find out.My projection lamp is almost 100% ready to laser cut. I just still have no clue how to measure the top piece for my structure. I’m hoping this week after printing out all of my sites, but I’ll be able to measure the Ingles correctly and get the measurements I need.
This week we continued on our projection lamp projects and were able to finish up the structural components in work on the design. Although my structure has some doubts, I still feel firmly that it will work. Or at least I hope. I am doing a six sided structure with projections on all six sides and the top part. I’m having trouble navigating how to create the top piece, due to the awkward interior angles of a hexagon. When I return on Wednesday I hope to have a structure that works in a solid design. Over this weekend I am going to edit my design and make it the best that it can be. Thankfully we don’t have school Monday or Tuesday and I’ll be able to do that. The biggest part of my design is displaying the seven chakras on each of the seven faces I will be using. The design I picked to complement the Bohemian style of chakras is something that I feel strong about. I want to leave this project feeling proud of my creation and to feel like all the stress was worth it. Although I did have my doubts this morning, I think that my structure has been one of the strongest, and will continue to be.
This week we continued to create our laser cut projection lamp project. But we paused to learn more about a program called sketch up. This program allows you to create 3-D objects that you can later on 3-D print. Initially when I logged onto the program, I was a little intimidated by the format. It seemed a little bit more complicated, or at least just different, then any other programs that I’ve used such as Adobe. Our first mini project was to create a few 3-D objects. One being a structure, or “house” to later 3-D print. When I first started off creating the structure I had a hard time understanding the different dimensions of the program. After looking at the tiny URL Doc, I was able to get some of my questions answered. I then had to look at a couple of YouTube videos, because I still didn’t really understand how to use the program. It was all OK though after I learned the basic tools. I’m excited to learn more about this program and to later 3-D print, and potentially cast our creations. However, going back to my projection lamp. I need to create my final and a concrete design for each of my lamp faces. On top of that, I need to ensure that my sizing of the structure fits together and how the top and bottom pieces will be placed.
